About Us

Our Story

Working at the Healthy Buildings Research Lab in early 2019, Pradeep was asked to participate as the chief engineer on a school project trying to bring clean air to air travelers. While that project did not get very far, the idea of bringing clean air in a robust, reliable way still lingered. From there, AirWear Devices was born to bring the benefits of breathing clean air to everyone.

Clean Air is a Right

Our primary vision is about increasing awareness around what is in the air we breathe, why it is there, and what we can do about it.

Environmental Protection

We strongly believe that we can, and should, change processes and behaviors to reverse the negative effects we have on our environment, with one of the benefits being improved air quality. In educating ourselves (and hopefully others), we believe we can make better choices for the world we live in. We support strong environmental policies and investments in clean technologies.

Population Protection

We recognize that there are naturally occurring compounds in our environment that are detrimental to our health and cognitive function. With poor air quality sitting at the intersection of environmental and health issues, we design each AirWear device to protect your breathing zone and remove harmful compounds to allow you to breathe easy.

Access for All

We believe that clean air is a right. While we are only one miniscule part of a global need for change, we strive to bring our products to communities and groups who need them most. While we start local, we hope our products can be placed on the shoulders of those that would benefit most all across our world.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

We engineer, innovate, and operate to reduce the materials and resources we consume in each AirWear device, reuse what we can from tools and processes, and recycle any potential waste products.

Our filters can be used again and again in each device, with a little servicing by our engineers and some elbow grease (available at all good hardware stores), they can be reinstalled, as good as new. We strongly recommend subscribing to our filter subscription program and returning your filters to do your part in reducing our footprint.

Dreaming of our own Obsolescence

We dream of a world where an AirWear device will not be needed for anyone to breathe clean air. These changes require education, collaboration, ambitious policies, collective action, and a commitment from each of us to protect and preserve a healthy environment. Providing clean air as a right is but one of the many challenges of our generation. We at AirWear are committed to doing our part to overcome this challenge. Will you join us?

Our Team

Pradeep Ramasubramanian

Pradeep Ramasubramanian

CEO - Engineering and Design Lead

Fifth-year Ph.D student in Mechanical Engineering working in the air quality field. He studies the impact of urban vegetation to air quality, at the city scale, the rooftop scale, and the filtration scale.
Spent four years as a Project Design Engineer working with injection molding, machining processes and incorporating PCB/PCA designs.
Passionate about environmental policies, human health and comfort, and wearable tech.

Mimi Shang

Mimi Shang

CTO - Mechatronics and Manufacturing Lead

Experienced Mechatronics and Manufacturing Engineer
BS and MS in mechanical engineering from Portland State University. Focuses on low cost and lightweight air quality sensor development and the role UAVs as a novel approach to air quality data collection.
Passionate about environmental justice, public health, and increasing accessibility in tech.

Sahil Sheth

Sahil Sheth

COO - Business and Legal Advisory

Graduated from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law in 2020 where he studied business and environmental law.
Attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied public policy and political science graduating with Dean’s Honors in 2013.
First-hand experience of the detrimental effects Yellow Sand has on one’s respiratory system, he is excited for AirWear to continue the pursuit of developing wearable technology to clean the air one breathes.

Dan Bedford

Dan Bedford

CFO - Finance

Grew up surrounded by the sandy beaches, fossil cliffs, medieval towns and moorland national parks of Devon in the UK.
Love of the outdoors eventually brought him to Oregon where he divides his time between the trails and plying his trade as an accountant with organizations serving purposes close to his heart.
Excited to work with a team of people a lot smarter than he is to bring quality to something as simple as the air we breathe.
